Moonbot Studios making a Golem game

A small company from the states - Moonbot Studios - is making another GOLEM game. Here you can watch a small trailer and presentation with the purpose of raising funds for it. Seems like a nice company with nice people with a good approach for the game. I like the idea of the five guilds; metal-, wood-, clock-, clay- and glassworkers guild, building the Golem and the player as the Golem learning to walk and use its skills. A mechanical Golem, like the automaton in Hugo Cabret, with a protective shell of fired clay covering it.

My idea of the Golem is wet, raw unfired clay, almost impossible to kill with bullets or ordinary weapons. When an arm is cutoff  it can just grab some clay out of nature and make a new one. Maybe it even uses its clay to throw at enemies. The Golems only vulnerability is in fact heat/fire. It constantly needs water to keep the clay moist, because if it dries out it can no longer move, becomes fragile and breaks into pieces and if exposed to fire the Golem virtually vitrifies into a statue. Maybe even aware of it's situation but never more able to move. Maybe like the Moonbot Golem though, I think my Golem also will learn certain abilities  throughout the gameplay, like talking, feeling emotions etc., but the player will also by controlling the Golems actions choose direction and stance, whether he takes an evil or heroic stance.

I hope Moonbot will raise funds because it looks like they're gonna make beautiful game too.

'Le voyage dans la lune' by Georges Méliès

I watched Martin Scorsese's Hugo Cabret the other day, partly about the life of Georges Méliès, an illusionist and pioneer in the earliest days of cinema. The movie was an interesting mixture between modern computer animated visual effects and image's, sceneries and clip's from Méliès movies.

As an illusionist Méliès saw the possibilities with cinema in creating astonishing acts, making people dissappear from one movie frame to the next, or by making laughing heads floating in air etc. All created by making illusional backdrops, mechanical constructions, costumes and sceneries. To me Scorsese is daring when he makes a movie full of computer animated, unrealistic (adding to much of everything) and bombastic sceneries and in the same movie including Méliès clips, which are so much more alive, kicking and beautiful.

Below is a full version (15 min) of Méliès  'Le voyage dans la lune', 'A trip to the moon'. Originally black and white negatives which were hand coloured frame by frame. Restored and with music by Air.

Residents in Stockholm 8th of may

Sensational. In my wildest dreams I didn't believe I'll get to see The Residents live. Check out their one-minute movies below from their 'Commercial album' (Yes that's the title of the album) from 1980 with 40 songs, each one minute long. Certainly an inspiration for my Golem Game, both musically and visually. Go and see!

The program I use - GameMaker - is on sale until january 4

Now is an opportunity for all of you potential Game Makers out there to buy the software I use to build my game. I can recommend it mostly if you wan't fast results or if you want to make games without any knowledge of programming. It's easy to use, my eleven year old son has with just a little help from me made a 40 level platform game by himself. The beauty of this program is that you can use it on on all levels, certainly as a beginner but it also contains all the possibilites and programming tools you might wan't to make a professional 2d game. (I haven't tried the featured 3d functions)

"From now until January 4, enjoy 50 percent off of GameMaker: Studio Professional, Standard and HTML5, Android, iOS and Windows Phone 8 exports modules. GameMaker: Studio Master Collection (Professional + all exports) is 25 percent off."

The price on GameMaker: Studio™ Professional 5 is usually $99.99 but now you can buy it 50% off for the price $49.99.

GOLEM radiodrama with Leonard Nimoy

"With stunning sound effects & music and an international cast, this thrilling radiodrama brings to life the legend that inspired "Frankenstein" - the saga of a mystical superhero who wages war against evil and defends a persecuted community from harm."

I found this beautiful video trailer for a radiodrama with Golem theme featuring Leonard Nimoy. Judging from this trailer it sounds like a beautiful soundtrack with atmospheric sounds and deep storytelling voices. I've found places where you can buy the record but I haven't found a full free version. If I do or any one else does, it would be nice to post it here.

As a small Leonard Nimoy bonus and a build up for the Hobbit movie you can follow this link to see his top hit 'Ballad of Bilbo Baggins'.

Swans, Live in Stockholm

Swans, live in Stockholm, nov 25, 2012. This is Golem music, you can almost hear him/it stomping in the background. The sound of a mobile phone recording cannot possibly reproduce the actual volume these grizzled old guys were playing in. The teeth were rattleing and the inner organs vibrating in pace with the soundwaves. Even though I used ear plugs, after this capture I had to back to a position in the rear of the audience, just to cope. According to wikipedia the front figure Michael Gira used to turn of the air conditioning in the concert room before a Swans performance. About his live shows, he has stated that it is at once 'soul-uplifting and body-destroying'. You get the picture.
