Or on the other hand...

replying the Zizek post before this one

...maybe not that perfect after all. Just because of the fact that the Golem figure is an empty persona it becomes more apparent that the actions and stances the player chooses are in fact the players choices. If you choose to kill the cat in the beginning of the game, instead of of cuddling with her, to get the key to the next level, you choose evil before good. If you want to play the evil identity as en ease for your true self, it's less obvious to yoursellf and others if you choose a game where the charachter is evil from start and where there are no possible choices of being good at all. In a fps-game you kill people and charchters, mostly in the guise of a hero protecting the world, but still - you kill, and you think you're doing it for righteous reasons.

Zizek on videogames

"...but what if we read it in the opposite way, this strong, brutal, rapist, whatever identity is my true self, in the sense that this is the psychic truth of myself. And that in real life, because of social constraints and so on, I'm not able to enect it. So that precisely, because I think it's only a game, it's only a persona, a self image I adopt in virtual space, I can be there much more truthful. I can enact there an identity which is much closer to my true self."
Slavoj Žižek

"In my game there will be several paths the player can follow to achieve Golems respect and/or esteem. He can choose to go down the evil path, spreading fear, killing and looting which will result in hatred and horror. He can ally with the feudal bad guys, assisting the tyrant and achieve power to control the people, or on the other hand ally with the people against the tyrant, kill the dragon and be the beloved hero. He can also be the artist, the odd fellow, respected for his creativity but never really incorporated fully in the society."
Quoting myself in the About Golem game blog  page

The Golem figure in my game is perfect this purpose. He/she/it is  an actual newborn and emtpy persona, yet grown up and strong, to adopt and shape as you like. Shape mentally, mirroring your deepest self or even shape his appearance - he is after all made of clay.

Back at Konstfack.

I'm attending a one year course at Konstfack, University college of arts crafts and design, Stockholm, called Research Lab, 60 credits. I've applied for it with an individual research project and will get time for concentrated work and have tutors guiding me in my efforts. An exclusivity I seldom have working alone in my studio, so it will be really interesting. The course is also meant to be a  pre-Phd study so I will get an entrance into understanding and preparing artistic research.

The project I,ve applied with has little to do with the Golem theme and even less with game making, but I will still use this blogg to document my progress, inspirations and references, so keep following. I know I've been a bit lazy, the last months in keeping this blogg up to date, but ith this project I'll try to get better.
