Konst handlar ofta om att se något annat än det omedelbart uppenbara. Konsten kan vrida och vända på begreppen och skapa bilder som vid första anblicken kan verka obegripliga men om man som betraktare hittar den där dörren på baksidan och kliver in köksvägen…

INGÅNG NÄSTA DÖRR är en grupputställning producerad för galleri ID:I. De sju inbjudna konstnärerna har valts ut av en av galleriets medlemmar, Christian Sandell, som också deltar med ett verk. Var och en har bidragit med upp till två verk, som förhåller sig till utställningens titel/tema. Inspirationen till titeln är hämtad från de skyltar som restaurangägare och andra näringsidkare sätter upp när de tröttnat på att folk går och rycker i fel dörr för att försöka komma in i deras lokaler. En vardaglig företeelse. En vänlig tillrättavisning. Ett trött pekfinger. En pil som visar den rätta vägen?

Moonbot Studios making a Golem game


A small company from the states - Moonbot Studios - is making another GOLEM game. Here you can watch a small trailer and presentation with the purpose of raising funds for it. Seems like a nice company with nice people with a good approach for the game. I like the idea of the five guilds; metal-, wood-, clock-, clay- and glassworkers guild, building the Golem and the player as the Golem learning to walk and use its skills. A mechanical Golem, like the automaton in Hugo Cabret, with a protective shell of fired clay covering it.

My idea of the Golem is wet, raw unfired clay, almost impossible to kill with bullets or ordinary weapons. When an arm is cutoff  it can just grab some clay out of nature and make a new one. Maybe it even uses its clay to throw at enemies. The Golems only vulnerability is in fact heat/fire. It constantly needs water to keep the clay moist, because if it dries out it can no longer move, becomes fragile and breaks into pieces and if exposed to fire the Golem virtually vitrifies into a statue. Maybe even aware of it's situation but never more able to move. Maybe like the Moonbot Golem though, I think my Golem also will learn certain abilities  throughout the gameplay, like talking, feeling emotions etc., but the player will also by controlling the Golems actions choose direction and stance, whether he takes an evil or heroic stance.

I hope Moonbot will raise funds because it looks like they're gonna make beautiful game too.

'Le voyage dans la lune' by Georges Méliès

I watched Martin Scorsese's Hugo Cabret the other day, partly about the life of Georges Méliès, an illusionist and pioneer in the earliest days of cinema. The movie was an interesting mixture between modern computer animated visual effects and image's, sceneries and clip's from Méliès movies.

As an illusionist Méliès saw the possibilities with cinema in creating astonishing acts, making people dissappear from one movie frame to the next, or by making laughing heads floating in air etc. All created by making illusional backdrops, mechanical constructions, costumes and sceneries. To me Scorsese is daring when he makes a movie full of computer animated, unrealistic (adding to much of everything) and bombastic sceneries and in the same movie including Méliès clips, which are so much more alive, kicking and beautiful.

Below is a full version (15 min) of Méliès  'Le voyage dans la lune', 'A trip to the moon'. Originally black and white negatives which were hand coloured frame by frame. Restored and with music by Air.

Residents in Stockholm 8th of may


Sensational. In my wildest dreams I didn't believe I'll get to see The Residents live. Check out their one-minute movies below from their 'Commercial album' (Yes that's the title of the album) from 1980 with 40 songs, each one minute long. Certainly an inspiration for my Golem Game, both musically and visually. Go and see!
